Grilled, glazed, and well-seasoned tofu, marinated in a sweet and spicy Asian BBQ sauce made with our Firebarns Ramen Sauce and Sambal Oelek, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Served in a poke bowl with rice, ramen noodles, and fresh vegetables, it's a colorful, generous, and decadent dish.

Ingredients

BBQ Tofu

  • 1 block extra-firm tofu
  • 1/3 cup Firebarns Ramen Japanese BBQ Sauce
  • 2 tbsp. rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1 to 2 tsp. Firebarns Sambal Oelek
  • 1 tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp. water, if needed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Poké Bowl

  • Cooked jasmine rice, sushi rice, or ramen noodles
  • Thinly sliced cucumber
  • Grated or julienned carrots
  • Edamame
  • Shredded red cabbage
  • Green onions
  • Thinly sliced radishes
  • Sesame seeds
  • Fresh cilantro, to taste
  • Lime wedges

Preparation

  1. Pat the tofu dry with a clean cloth or paper towels. Cut the block into thick slices, cubes, or triangles, depending on the desired style.
  2. In a bowl, mix the Ramen Sauce and Firebarns Sambal Oelek, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and vegetable oil. Season generously with pepper and lightly with salt, to taste. If the marinade is too thick, add a little water to adjust the consistency.
  3. Place the tofu in an airtight container or a resealable bag. Pour the marinade over the tofu and coat each piece thoroughly. Refrigerate for 24 hours, turning the pieces once or twice to maximize flavor.
  4. Preheat the BBQ to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill to prevent the tofu from sticking.
  5. Remove the tofu from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting. Place the tofu on the BBQ and grill for about 3 to 4 minutes per side, until well-marked and slightly crispy.
  6. During cooking, baste the tofu with the marinade a few times to create a lacquered, sticky, and flavorful texture. Avoid over-handling to help it retain its shape.
  7. Meanwhile, prepare the bowls with a base of hot rice or ramen noodles. Add fresh vegetables around the base.
  8. Place the grilled BBQ tofu on top. Garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.
