Le Meatball Sub de Montréal

The classic American meatball sub version Firebarns prepared with marinara meatballs enhanced with our Montreal steak spices and our Original hot sauce. A perfect recipe for before a football match or to please the whole family on an evening when you don't want to worry about a dish that everyone will enjoy. A touchdown every time!


  • 400 g ground beef
  • 400 g Italian sausage meat
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup parmesan
  • 2 tbsp. tbsp Montreal steak spice
  • 1 can (796 ml) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 1 C. oregano
  • 5 to 6 drops of Original hot sauce
  • 1 C. basil table
  • 1 C. crushed peppers
  • 1 C. tbsp Montreal steak spices
  • 4 small baguette rolls
  • 8 slices of mozzarella
  • 2 tbsp. tablespoon chopped fresh basil


  1. In a mixing bowl, mix the sausage meat, ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, parmesan and Montreal steak spices well.
  2. Take the equivalent of a good tablespoon of the mixture and shape into balls. In a large skillet over high heat, drizzle with olive oil and sear the meatballs until evenly browned. Remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté the onion for about 2 to 3 minutes. Then add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, crushed peppers, Firebarns Original and Montreal steak spices. Mix well and continue cooking for about 5 minutes.
  4. Return the meatballs to the sauce, cover and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
  5. Add 2 slices of cheese to the baguettes and toast in the oven for 5 minutes.
  6. Add the sauce and meatballs to the bread and sprinkle with fresh basil before serving.
