Guinness Stout Braised Beef

A typical St. Patrick's Day recipe with beef braised in Guinness black beer that will take you on a journey to the heart of Ireland and its dishes simmered for long hours. Enhanced with our Montreal Steak Spices, Baseball Mustard and Cayenne Hot Sauce, this dish is the perfect comfort food for this season. Allow 4 hours of cooking time to give the meat time to release easily.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of chuck roast cut into large cubes
  • 2 carrots cut into small cubes
  • 1 C. tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1 onion roughly chopped
  • 2 celery, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp. tbsp Montreal steak spice
  • 2 tbsp. baseball mustard
  • 1 C. tablespoon of flour
  • 1 can of Guinness beer 473 ml
  • 3 cups of beef broth
  • 1 sprig of rosemary
  • 1 C. tablespoon of thyme
  • 1 C. cayenne hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice or pasta

Preparation

  1. In a large saucepan, brown the beef on each side with a drizzle of olive oil. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the carrots, onion, garlic and celery and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the steak spices, flour and mustard and continue cooking for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add the Guinness beer, beef broth, thyme, rosemary and Cayenne hot sauce. Cover and place in the oven at 350°F for 4 hours.
  5. Serve with mashed potatoes, rice or pasta.
