BOURBON BACON CHILI DOG

A delicious, decadent chili dog enhanced with our Bourbon Bacon BBQ sauce which performs wonderfully in this recipe with smoked sausage. A perfect recipe to impress your guests during a festive BBQ. Let your chili simmer all day and then prepare this delicious chili dog in the evening!

Ingredients

CHILI INGREDIENTS

  • 1 chopped yellow onion
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 can of red beans
  • 1 C. tablespoon of cumin
  • 1 C. cayenne powder
  • 1 C. tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 1 C. tablespoon of paprika
  • 1/2 cup Bourbon Bacon BBQ sauce
  • 200 ml tomato sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 C. tablespoon of tomato paste

HOT DOGS INGREDIENTS

  • 6 large hot dog buns
  • 6 smoked sausages
  • 12 slices of bacon
  • 1/2 cup Bourbon Bacon BBQ sauce
  • 1 cup of arugula
  • A jalapeno pepper cut into slices
  • Sour cream to taste
  • ½ cup grated Tex-Mex cheese

Preparation

PREPARING THE CHILI

  1. In a large saucepan, brown the onion with a little butter or olive oil for about 5 minutes. Add the meat and continue cooking until the ground beef is cooked. Then add the dry spices and continue cooking over medium heat for 4 to 5 minutes;
  2. Place the beef mixture in a slow cooker, add the other ingredients and heat for 6 to 8 hours.

PREPARING THE CHILI DOG

  1. Wrap the smoked sausages in bacon (2 slices per sausage) and cook your favorite way (BBQ, pan or oven). Personally, I prefer BBQ. When the bacon is almost cooked and crispy, brush with the Bourbon Bacon Sauce and continue cooking for a few minutes.
  2. Reheat the buns and spread them with the remaining Bourbon Bacon sauce. Then add the arugula, sausage and chili. Finish with cheese, sour cream and jalapeno slices.
