Ingredients:
- 400 g ground beef
- 400 g Italian sausage meat
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp Montreal steak spice
- 1 can (796 ml) crushed tomatoes
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 1 tbsp basil
- 1 tbsp crushed peppers
- 1 tbsp Montreal steak spice
- 4 baguette rolls
- 8 slices mozzarella
- 2 tbsp fresh chopped basil
Preparation :
In a large mixing bowl, combine sausage meat, ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese and Montreal steak spices.
Take a heaping tablespoon of the mixture and shape into balls. In a large skillet over high heat, drizzle olive oil and sear the meatballs until evenly browned. Remove meatballs from pan and set aside.
In the same skillet, sauté the onion for about 2 to 3 minutes. Then add crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, crushed chilies and Montreal steak spices. Mix well and continue cooking for about 5 minutes.
Return meatballs to sauce, cover and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
Add 2 slices of cheese to the baguettes and toast in the oven for 5 minutes.
Add sauce and meatballs to bread and sprinkle with fresh basil before serving.
