THE MONTREAL MEATBALL SUB

Level : Easy

Serving size : 3 to 4 people

Ingredients:

400g. ground beef

400g. Italian sausage meat

1 egg

-1/4 cup of Italian breadcrumbs

1/4 cup of parmesan cheese

-2 tbsp. Montreal spices

-1 can (796ml) crushed tomatoes

1 onion, finely chopped

-1 tbsp. oregano

-1 tbsp. basil

-1 tbsp crushed chilies

-1 tbsp Montreal spices

4 baguette rolls

8 slices mozzarella

2 tbsp. chopped fresh basil

Preparation:

In a mixing bowl, combine the sausage meat, ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese and Montreal spices.

Scoop a heaping tablespoon of the mixture and shape into balls. In a large skillet over high heat, drizzle olive oil and sear the meatballs until evenly browned. Remove meatballs from pan and set aside.

In the same pan, sauté the onion for about 2 to 3 minutes. Then add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, crushed chilies and Montreal spices. Mix well and continue cooking for about 5 minutes.

Return the meatballs to the sauce, cover and bake at 350F for 45 minutes.

Add 2 slices of cheese to the baguettes and toast in the oven for 5 minutes.

Add sauce and meatballs to bread and sprinkle with fresh basil before serving.
